On a more positive note, Puppy Linux community is way better than other Linux communities where members act all elitist and all that jazz.Haven't been able to much on the forum, or from google searches, for an easy to install (not geeky) lightweight touchscreen compatible Linux install. Yes you can still download and run it, but don’t expect updated browser etc. Now that the 32-bit architecture is no longer supported, basically it means that Puppy Linux is no longer relevant and viable. Puppy Linux goal was to support older hardware.
I rather contribute to a project that I can use myself.ħ. No point contributing when the whole system just bastardizes older hardware just because the user can’t afford or doesn’t want newer hardware. I myself wanted to contribute a better interface but I just dropped the whole idea when they dropped 32-bit.

The older 4.x series gave options of Xorg or XVesa and was able to boot right to the desktop without any issues.Ħ. Imagine having to take an important exam, and having to reboot UbuntuPup 3 times and still can’t reach the desktop. Puppy Linux v5 onwards used a newer Xorg that totally messed up the display. I understand if the first few versions look horrible, but later on when there are volunteers capable of graphic design and free icon sets, does that horrible look still have to remain?ĥ. If they adopted a standard look, like using Tango icons, they would end up with a consistent look all around.

Imagine using Mac OS X icons + Vista icons + plus flat icons + rudimentary hand drawn icons all in one place. After 20 years of development, the Puppy Linux user interface still looks like shit. Now that Ubuntu dropped 32-bit, other distributions just did a monkey see monkey do and dropped support.Ĥ. What a fucking shithead living in a blardy bubble. Linus Torvalds was even happy to drop 32-bit support, without realizing that millions of people in less developed countries still depend on it. They should have just focused all their energy on a main 32-bit distribution with builds just like Alpine.ģ. It was literally “the Alpine Linux before there was an Alpine Linux”. Why? Puppy Linux is small, fast, uses Busybox and capable of running from ram.
Puppy Linux should have been Alpine Linux. Within Linux there is so much fragmentation, and within the Puppy Linux ecosystem, there is so much fragmentation that you don’t know which is which.Ģ. Some fancy spins end up becoming abandoned after few versions, if not one version. There are versions that are based on Ubuntu, Debian, Slackware, etc. Puppy Linux has become a convoluted mess.
